Due to the Covid-19 State of Emergency in Michigan, a number of local courts are closed temporarily. County-specific court closure information can be found here.
We cannot predict at this time when hearings will be rescheduled. We do anticipate that the court system will have a significant backlog of cases when it reopens, and we are expecting significant delays in getting rescheduled dates. However, please rest assured that we will monitor these adjourned matters to ensure that they are not overlooked when the court eventually reopens.
Austin+Koffron will continue to provide legal services during the Covid-19 State of Emergency. We plan to maintain business hours from 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday. However, we are operating with reduced staff and may, at some point, need to completely transition to working remotely. As such, until there is no longer a State of Emergency, all in-person office conferences, mediations, or other events will be held via phone or video conferencing.
We understand that these are trying times – especially for families in the midst of custody disputes, families who are transitioning from one household to two, and for those who are financially dependent upon (or financially responsible for) their spouse. Family law matters are inherently difficult (even the uncontested ones), and the Covid-19 State of Emergency certainly does not make your situation any easier. That said, not all family law issues require in-court or in-person appearances to resolve. We will do all that we can (even if working remotely) to prevent our clients’ cases from grinding to a halt though we cannot deny that all cases will be impacted in some way by the Covid-19 pandemic.
If you have questions or concerns about how the State of Emergency will affect your family law matter, and if you would like to set up a teleconference or video conference with one of our attorneys, please call our office between 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to do so. If we come to a point where there is a quarantine and no one is physically at the office to take your call, please contact us.
